Youth Participation

Jordan is a young country: more than 50% of the population are under the age of 25. Youth represent a potential asset to development, provided that there is an enabling environment in which their youthful energy can be harnessed. In the past, traditional value systems tended to constrain youth voice, but this process has been challenged, in part by youth themselves, who are now actively pursuing a larger role in the social, economic and cultural development of the country.

JOHUD has always been active with young people, and operates youth committees in the majority of the CDC's. In 1997, the Princess Basma Youth Resource Centre (PBYRC) part of ZENID, began a national youth program that spread across the Kingdom, and expanded the youth volunteer base to approximately 3000 young people throughout the CDC's.
