Media and Development Unit

In this day and age, media is a vital tool for effective communication and awareness. PBYRC was a pioneer in establishing a media and development program in the year 2000, that aimed to provide young people with the platform to utilize media tools in expressing themselves innovatively and creatively.

The success of the program enabled PBYRC to expand it to become a media and development unit. Whereby, PBYRC utilizes various media tools to transfer development issues in an attractive way. Furthermore, the unit also produces posters, graphic work through a developmental lens.

To date the unit has produced a number of short films whereby young people produced the films from scratch. As well as a number of short documentaries that focus on development priorities including; youth parliament, women’s political participation, the road to democracy and films that document the process of various successful projects including MAKANA a women’s empowerment project in JOHUD, Gender, Advocacy and Reproductive health a regional training that ZENID implements annually.

Additionally, the team in the unit are also qualified trainers who provide media training for development practitioners and members of the local community.
The training emphasises the importance of using media tools as a form of advocacy and campaigning and provides participants with up to date skills of integrating media approaches with development.
