Governance and local development

King Abdullah II has demonstrated a continuous commitment to public sector reform and has initiated broader democratic reform initiatives. His Majesty also emphasised that political development will be an essential part of the Government's national priorities.

The creation of the Ministry of Political Development in 2003 is a clear indication of the government's commitment to promote political development through accountability and transparency.

The role of civil societies is equally important in advocating with the poor for changes at the policy and development processes level.Thereform initiatives (public sector, decentralisation, governance and democratisation) provide an opportunity for ZENID to play a more proactive role in local level processes as a catalyst for change. As government comes closer to the people, ZENID will help bring poor and marginalized groups closer to the government and create the space in which their voices can be heard and their needs addressed.
